Norner's expansion in extreme environment qualification testing is designed to support the defence, offshore, and critical infrastructure sectors. As advanced materials are increasingly used in these sectors, realistic qualification testing is essential. Materials must withstand combinations of extreme temperature, pressure, moisture, corrosion, and mechanical loads throughout their service life.
By upgrading its autoclave facilities, Norner is responding to these challenges. The new autoclave facilities have dedicated cooling systems, enabling controlled sub-zero testing while simultaneously exposing materials and components to pressure and aggressive media. The new capability allows manufacturers to evaluate material performance under conditions that closely resemble real-world operating environments.
This will help manufacturers understand how materials will perform before deployment.

The expansion is driven by growing demand from defence and critical infrastructure sectors for robust material qualification and verification programs. Modern systems are being deployed in environments characterised by Arctic temperatures, humidity, corrosion, UV exposure, pressure fluctuations, and long service life requirements. Comprehensive testing is essential to ensure reliability throughout operational lifetimes.
The upgraded facility enables combined exposure testing, including:
Such testing is increasingly relevant for defence systems, offshore installations, unmanned platforms, energy infrastructure, telecommunications equipment and other mission-critical applications where environmental degradation can significantly affect performance and safety.
"Qualification is more than passing a test," says Ida Marie Wold at
Norner. "Our goal is to help customers understand how materials behave over time, identify potential failure mechanisms, and make confident decisions regarding product design, material selection and service life."

The new sub-zero autoclave capability forms part of the Norner Xtreme portfolio, an integrated offering focused on qualification of materials and components for defence, marine, energy and critical infrastructure applications operating under extreme conditions.
Norner has extensive experience in qualification testing and lifetime assessment of polymers, composites, coatings, and non-metallic components.
